Goal Statement
In the short term, my goal is simply to become a well-rounded individual and gain as much experience in as many areas of accounting as possible. My primary focus and interest is in cost management, but I understand that it is difficult to make headway in private accounting when one is fresh out of school. Therefore, I hope to make a start in the government soon after I graduate, since my second favorite subject in accounting is accounting for non-profit and governmental agencies. I am certainly not picky right now – I could see myself making a career in tax or audit services, even if only for a few years. But in the long-run, I would like to see myself become an expert in an industry that constantly keeps me motivated and challenged. I will certainly need that passion and expertise if I plan to meet my ultimate goal of becoming a Controller or Chief Financial Officer. My ambitions and interests have always changed with the tides, though, so I may wake up one day and decide that I want to run my own business instead – I just never know. But whatever my short-term, long-term, or now-term goals, I do my best to put 100% into my career and continuing education because every day, I learn something new about the profession and about where I fit within it.
